Simple Exploring Everyday – build from boxes

My kids had a great time today @artplaykids exploring some first year university architecture students Cardboard Spaces Creations.  With a bit of time and expertise you can build anything from cardboard boxes.

The maze and climbing frames were impressive

And some of the intricate fine cardboard creations my daughter found were even more so

But then my kids starting cutting up boxes and created some nifty creations themselves using all sorts of inspiration.

From my 6 year old son – The (cardboard) Titanic  and my 3 year daughter a little treasure chest.

My 8 year old daughter created a hot rod (here she is tracing out some wheels)

Its great to get creative with some cardboard boxes, scissors and tape to build from inspiration and discover.  The kids will love what they can do with boxes and today even interior design can make some use of them.  And with what Apple and others have done with box design, they’re a thing of beauty in some cases.

Simple Exploring Everyday – have fun and discover

Exploring everyday sounds simple – it should be – there are simple pleasures to be discovered around us all the time.A simple definition of “explore” from the Merriam Webster dictionary  includes the words investigate, study, analyze or to become familiar by testing or experimenting. In my mind its simpler than this, just “have fun and discover” in all the things around you everyday. For me that includes seeing things through the eyes of my kids and taking pleasure in simple things that happen all the time.
Children walk through life with a joy and playfulness that adults tend to lose in the process of growing up. Everything is new and exciting to children, and exploring like a child everyday and everywhere you go is a skill we should all master.
  • Run SAND through your fingers
  • Feel the WAVES splashing on you
  • Throw BALLs in the air
  • Feel GRASS in your toes
  • PLAY in all you do
  • GROW some plants
  • Take pleasure in the changing SKY
  • Feel the WIND rustling through the trees
  • Listed to the SOUNDS of the everyday
  • FEEL the rain on your head
  • BUILD anything from the simplest cardboard boxes

I hope to be able to capture some simple everyday exploration to inspire you and your kids in discovery, to thrive and keep playing both at home everyday or travelling everywhere.
